MH15 SERIES Gear Pump  Overview

The Parker GP1 is a high-performance, fixed-displacement external gear pump specifically engineered for truck-mounted hydraulic systems and medium-duty mobile applications. Featuring a rugged two-piece cast iron construction, the GP1 provides a high power-to-weight ratio and exceptional structural rigidity. It is the preferred choice for commercial vehicle hydraulics, such as aerial lifts, snow and ice control, and material handling equipment, where space is at a premium and reliable high-pressure performance is required.

Features and Benefits

  • Rugged Two-Piece Cast Iron Construction:
The GP1 is built with high-strength cast iron housings that offer superior resistance to internal deflection and mechanical fatigue compared to aluminum alternatives. This rigid design ensures precise gear alignment and maintains tight internal tolerances even under continuous high-pressure operation, resulting in a longer service life.
  • High Power Density and Compact Frame:
Specifically designed for the commercial vehicle market, the GP1 delivers significant flow and pressure from a remarkably compact footprint. Its two-piece design optimizes space, making it ideal for direct mounting on truck Power Take-Offs (PTOs) where clearance is often extremely limited.
  • Dual Porting for Maximum Installation Flexibility:
A standout feature of the GP1 is its unique "side and rear" porting configuration. This provides hydraulic engineers with the flexibility to connect lines from the back or the side of the pump, simplifying plumbing and allowing for easier integration into complex or cramped chassis environments.
  • Precision-Ground Gears and Advanced Bearings:
Featuring high-precision hardened steel gears and heavy-duty bearings, the GP1 ensures smooth power delivery and minimal pressure pulsations. This precision engineering not only enhances the pump's mechanical efficiency but also results in significantly lower operational noise levels, which is critical for urban service vehicles.
  • Versatile Customization and High-Pressure Capability:
The GP1 series covers a broad displacement range (from  23 to 100 cc/rev) and is capable of handling continuous operating pressures up to  300 bar (4,350 psi). With multiple international mounting standards and various shaft options available, it offers a highly adaptable solution for both new OEM designs and high-performance field replacements.

Applications

The Parker GP1 series provides a compact, high-efficiency power solution specifically tailored for the commercial vehicle and truck hydraulics market, where space optimization and high-pressure reliability are essential:
  • Aerial Lifts & Work Platforms: A primary choice for truck-mounted bucket trucks and cherry pickers, providing smooth and precise hydraulic control for elevated operations while fitting into the tight spaces around the truck PTO.

  • Snow & Ice Control Equipment: Optimized for salt spreaders and snow plow lift systems, where the rugged cast iron construction resists the harsh external environment and manages the high-frequency duty cycles of winter service.

  • Medium-Duty Material Handling: Widely used in truck-mounted cranes and hook loaders that require consistent high-pressure lifting power and high volumetric efficiency to ensure rapid load cycles.

  • Specialized Utility Vehicles: Ideal for recovery trucks, small garbage compactors, and street sweepers, offering a durable solution that can be easily integrated into complex chassis layouts thanks to its dual-porting design.

  • Transport & Distribution: Frequently employed in truck tail-lifts and hydraulic ramp systems for car carriers, ensuring reliable operation and low noise levels during loading and unloading in urban environments.

GP1 Gear Pump  FAQ

1. What are GP1 series gear pumps

The GP1 is a high-performance, fixed-displacement external gear pump specifically designed for truck-mounted hydraulic systems. Featuring a rugged two-piece  cast iron  construction, it is engineered to provide a high power-to-weight ratio in a compact frame. It is the industry standard for medium-duty commercial vehicle applications, such as aerial lifts and utility equipment, where space is limited but reliability is essential.

2. What makes the GP1 different from standard aluminum gear pumps

The GP1 is built for the demanding duty cycles of the trucking industry where aluminum pumps might struggle:
  • Two-Piece Cast Iron Housing: The high-strength cast iron body offers significantly more structural rigidity than aluminum, minimizing internal deflection and "body stretching" under high pressure to ensure long-term volumetric efficiency.

  • Compact High-Power Density: Designed specifically for PTO (Power Take-Off) mounting, it delivers higher pressure and flow from a smaller footprint than many equivalent aluminum Group 2 or Group 3 pumps.

  • Installation Versatility: Its unique design features both side and rear ports as standard, allowing for much easier plumbing in the cramped spaces typical of truck chassis.

3. What is the working pressure range of GP1 pumps

The GP1 is a high-pressure specialist within its size class. Depending on the displacement, the series typically handles:
  • Continuous Pressure: Up to 250 bar (3,625 PSI).

  • Intermittent/Peak Pressure: Up to 300 bar (4,350 PSI).
This capability allows it to operate heavy-duty lifting cylinders and high-torque motors that usually require much larger hydraulic components.

4. Can GP1 pumps replace other brands

Yes, the GP1 is highly versatile and is frequently used to replace or upgrade other compact cast iron or premium aluminum pumps in truck applications, such as those from  Casappa or  Marzocchi. To ensure a successful crossover, you must verify:
  • Mounting Flange: Typically DIN 5462 (4-bolt truck) or SAE standards.

  • Shaft Type: Standard 8-tooth splines (DIN 5462) are common for truck PTOs.

  • Rotation: Most GP1 models are bi-rotational, making them easier to stock and install regardless of the PTO’s rotation direction.

5. What hydraulic oil is suitable for GP1 gear pumps

To protect the precision-ground gears and high-load bearings, the following is recommended:
  • Oil Type: High-quality mineral-based hydraulic oils with Anti-Wear (AW) additives.

  • Viscosity: A standard range of ISO VG32 to VG46. The pump operates optimally between 20 and 50 cSt, but can handle cold starts up to 1500 cSt.

  • Filtration: Cleanliness is critical for high-pressure cast iron pumps. Parker recommends a minimum filtration level of ISO 4406 20/18/13 to prevent premature wear of the internal pressure zones.

6. What is the typical speed range of GP1 pumps

The GP1 is optimized for the speed ranges of modern truck engines and electric motors, typically operating between 400 RPM and 2,000 RPM. Its ability to maintain high efficiency at lower speeds makes it ideal for idling truck engines, while its robust construction handles the higher RPMs encountered during transport or high-speed operation.

FAQ

1.How does the variable displacement work?

The pump's flow is adjusted by changing the angle of an internal swash plate. As the swash plate angle changes, the stroke length of the pistons varies, which in turn changes the volume of fluid displaced per rotation, allowing the flow rate to adapt to the system's needs.
